Share your expertise! After all, what’s the point of being an expert if you don’t tell others how you did it?
You might be wondering why you’d work so hard to get to the level of an expert… then just share it all an be at a competitive advantage.
Well… is that it? Is this as good as you get? If you are done learning, technically you’re done being a Subject Matter Expert.
Part of being a Subject Matter Expert is your willingness to continue to learn and explore because you have passion about a chosen area.
Therefore, helping others by sharing your knowledge does not weaken you, it strengthens your following AND you will increase your knowledge with the feedback from the ideas that your students share on their learning journey.
You will learn from those who follow you. That’s part of the treat.
How do I know this?
I brought a woman out on our dock last week, I was giving her a tour of our marina. She mentioned that, “It’s the Friday of Summer”– I asked, “what?”
She went on to say, there was an anticipation in the air at the marina. It was like a Friday night of a weekend… but bigger… it was the Friday of Summer.
Her description was pretty cool. I’m an expert in our marina and how it works, ways to enjoy our lake, and the marketing and messaging… but you know what… I learned from her. Then I shared it in our weekly email newsletter.
Being a Subject Matter Expert requires you to share your knowledge. Don’t ever be afraid to do it, you will learn something from each interaction you create. When you’re willing to share you will learn.
